while LLMs, by definition, cannot be sentient, I imagine that some future AI, based upon a different learning model, could potentially attain personhood.

So reading this article and then the tweet I thought at first this was some sort of “so you hate waffles?” Twitter discourse type shit. That being said look at this quote:
“Fundamentally, human society lacks a framework for digital personhood – even though we accept that personhood is not necessarily human, such as the legal personhood of animals and corporations. There is much to debate about how the complex social dynamics should be governed, but it is at this point clear that digital minds cannot be governed as mere property.”
It seems odd to note we don’t have a framework for non human personhood when we don’t even have a framework for human personhood.
